Why Does My Tree Look Like That?
Thinning leaves, dead branches at the top, yellowing, early leaf drop: trees show stress long before they fail. A health assessment finds the cause, whether it's drought, root damage, soil compaction, pests or disease, so it can be treated while the tree can still recover.
At McCullough Tree Service the assessment is done by one of our 3 ISA-certified arborists.
What the Arborist Looks At
- Leaves and canopy: color, density, dieback from the top or tips
- Trunk and bark: wounds, cankers, oozing, insect holes
- Root zone: soil, grade changes, compaction, construction damage, mulch and watering
- Site conditions: sun, drainage, nearby construction or new turf

After the Assessment
You'll get a plain explanation of what's wrong and what will help, such as pruning out dead wood, changing watering or mulching, or treatment for a pest or disease (disease and pest diagnosis). If a tree is too far gone, we'll say so and explain the removal options.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are signs of an unhealthy tree?
Thinning or yellow leaves, dieback at the top, peeling bark, fungus at the base and dropping limbs.
Can a sick tree be saved?
Often, if the cause is found early. Some trees recover with better watering, mulching, pruning or treatment.
Do you check the roots?
We look at the root zone and soil, since many problems start below ground.
Who does the assessment?
