When a Tree Is Too Big or Too Close to Take Down the Usual Way
Some trees can't be dropped in one piece and can't be lowered branch by branch by rope without putting a roof, a pool cage or a fence at risk. For those trees, McCullough Tree Service brings in a crane. Our crew cuts the tree into sections while the crane holds each piece, then lifts it up and over your house and landscaping to the truck.
Crane-assisted removal is often faster than a climbing removal, and it greatly reduces the impact on the area around the tree: no trunk sections hitting the lawn, and no heavy pieces swinging near the house.
When We Recommend a Crane
- Large oaks and pines that lean over a house or garage
- Trees in tight backyards with no room to drop the trunk
- Trees hanging over pool enclosures, fences, docks or neighbors' roofs
- Dead or storm-damaged trees that aren't safe to climb
- Trees that have already fallen onto a structure
One of our ISA-certified arborists looks at the tree, the access and what's underneath it before we quote, and tells you whether a crane is the right tool or whether climbing and rigging will do the job.

How a Crane Removal Works
1. Free estimate. We check the tree, the overhead lines and where the crane can set up.
2. Setup. The crane is positioned on the street or driveway, and the work area is marked off.
3. Sectioning. A climber or the crane basket brings a crew member up to the tree. Each section is rigged to the crane before it's cut, then lifted clear.
4. Cleanup. Branches go through the chipper, trunk sections are hauled away, and the yard is cleaned before we leave. Stump grinding can be added the same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a crane to remove my tree?
Not always. Many trees can be taken down by climbing and lowering pieces by rope. A crane makes sense when the tree is very large, leans over a structure, or has no safe drop zone. We'll tell you which method fits during the free estimate.
Will the crane damage my lawn or driveway?
The crane sets up on the street or driveway where possible, and lifting the sections out keeps heavy pieces off your lawn and landscaping.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
It depends on the tree and the city or county. Many Central Florida cities require a permit for larger or protected trees. Our arborists can tell you what applies to your property.
Can you remove the stump too?
Yes. We can grind the stump below ground level after the removal so you can replant or lay sod.
