Trees That Could Fall on Something That Matters

A tree becomes dangerous when it could fail and land on your house, your car, a neighbor's property or a power line. In Central Florida that usually means a tree weakened by storms, rot or old damage, or a big tree that has grown too close to the house.

McCullough Tree Service takes these trees down piece by piece, with ropes, rigging and, when needed, a crane, so nothing drops where it shouldn't. Our crews are licensed and insured, and the work is planned by one of our 3 ISA-certified arborists.

Signs a Tree May Be Dangerous

  • The tree leans more than it used to, or the soil is lifting on one side
  • Cracks or splits in the trunk or where large limbs join
  • Dead branches, bare sections of canopy, or a tree that didn't leaf out
  • Mushrooms or soft, hollow wood at the base
  • Limbs over the roof, driveway or power lines after a storm

If you're not sure, ask for a tree risk assessment. Our arborist will tell you whether the tree can be made safe with pruning or cabling, or whether it needs to come down.

How We Remove a Dangerous Tree

We never fell a hazardous tree in one piece next to a structure. The crew climbs or uses the crane to remove it from the top down, lowering each piece on a rope to a controlled spot on the ground. Near power lines we plan the cuts so no part of the tree contacts the line.

When we're done, the debris is chipped and hauled away and the area is cleaned up. Stump grinding can be done the same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my tree is dangerous?

Leaning, cracks, dead limbs, fungus at the base and storm damage are the common warning signs. An ISA-certified arborist can assess the tree and tell you how likely it is to fail.

Can a dangerous tree be saved instead of removed?

Sometimes. Weight-reduction pruning, crown thinning or cabling can make a tree safer. If the trunk or roots are failing, removal is the safer choice.

What if the tree is near power lines?

We plan the removal around the lines so no part of the tree touches them. If a tree is already on a line, call your utility company first.

Do you offer emergency removal?

Yes. If a tree has fallen or is about to fall on your home, call us and we'll respond as quickly as we can.
